Deep Space LIVE: Faszination der Ozeane

(Linz, 27.4.2012) Der Taucher und Unterwasserfotograf Peter Pflügl lädt Donnerstag, 3. Mai, zu einer bildreichen Reise in die Unterwasserwelt. BesucherInnen treffen dabei auf außergewöhnliche Meeresbewohner und erfahren jede Menge Wissenswertes über deren Lebens- und Verhaltensweise. Neben der Präsentation faszinierender Unterwasserbilder gibt Pflügl auch Einblick in seine Arbeitsweise, erzählt über seine Aufnahmetechnik und die dafür notwendige Ausrüstung.

Lange Nacht der Forschung im Ars Electronica Center

April bewegen BesucherInnen sechsbeinige Roboter oder den Spieleklassiker Pac Man Roboter Kraft der eigenen Gedanken, blicken hinter die Kulissen des Ars Electronica Futurelab und erfahren mehr über ein Projekt mit der Blutbank Linz, das mit Hilfe von Rasterelektronenmikroskopen den Alterungsprozess von roten Blutzellen erforscht.

Deep Space LIVE: Verschwundenes Linz

(Deutsch) (Linz, 23.4.2012) Im Rahmen von Deep Space LIVE beleuchtet Markus Altrichter vom Archiv der Stadt Linz diesen Donnerstag die bauliche Entwicklung der Stadt während der letzten Jahrhunderte und präsentiert faszinierende Aufnahmen von längst abgerissenen Gebäuden, die über lange Jahre das Linzer Stadtbild prägten. Mittels großformatiger Projektionen erwachen eindrucksvolle Bauten wie die Wollzeugfabrik, Hatschekvilla oder das Hotel Weinzinger für kurze Zeit wieder zu neuem Leben.

OUT OF CONTROL – What the Internet Knows about You

(Linz, April 18, 2012) A clash over the possession and dissemination of personal data is now raging worldwide. Politicians and bureaucrats, corporate executives and civil rights activists—it seems they’re all squabbling about who may, should or must know what about us and retain it how long! And regardless of who finally prevails in this skirmish, the victory comes with a short expiration date. Why? Because the internet and the services that make it up are changing so rapidly that we users and our elected officials can hardly keep pace. “Out of Control – What the Internet Knows about You,” the Ars Electronica Center’s new exhibition produced jointly with the Department of Secure Information Systems at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences’ Hagenberg Campus, scrutinizes the constantly shifting border between the public and private spheres, and the opportunities and risks this entails for us users. “Out of Control – What the Internet Knows about You” will be running from April 19th to the end of 2012.

Deep Space LIVE: Higgs, wo bist du?

Am 6. und 20. April erfahren BesucherInnen bei einem Rundgang durch die Ausstellung „Neue Bilder vom Menschen“ allerlei Wissenswertes über alte und neue Techniken der Bildgebung.

Ausstellungseröffnung: Pingo ergo sum

(Deutsch) (Linz, 3.4.2012) Von 6. April bis 27. Mai zeigt das Ars Electronica Center die neue Ausstellung „Pingo ergo sum“. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die Kunst des „Brain Paintings“, bei der Bilder ohne Zuhilfenahme der Hände, von Tastatur oder Maus gemalt werden. Mittels eines von der Firma g-tec entwickelten Brain-Computer-Interface (BCI) werden die Gehirnströme der oder des Malenden gemessen und an einen Computer übertragen, auf dem eine eigens programmierte Software installiert ist. Nur Kraft der eigenen Gedanken kann hier aus einer ganzen Palette an Pinseln, Formen und Farben gewählt und Bilder gemalt werden. Im Rahmen der Ausstellungseröffnung am Donnerstag, 5. April wird der Schweizer Künstler Adi Hoesle im Deep Space des Ars Electronica Center ein solches „Brain Painting“ erstellen. Darüber hinaus ist eine Liveschaltung in die Kunsthalle Rostock geplant, wo sich seit einer Woche ebenfalls alles um das „Brain Painting“ dreht.

Interaktiv-kreativ-Tage in den Osterferien

(Deutsch) (Linz, 2.4.2012) Die Interaktiv-kreativ-Tage im Ars Electronica Center versprechen in den Osterferien abwechslungsreiche Unterhaltung. Dienstag, 3. April, werden auf einem Zeichencomputer fantastische Kreaturen entworfen, die mit Hilfe eines Lasercutters in richtige Papierwesen verwandelt werden können, während bei PicoCricket ein kleiner Computer zum hupenden Fahrzeug oder zu einer leuchtenden Blume umprogrammiert und verändert werden kann. Donnerstag, 5. April, entstehen aus Schrott wunderbare Traummaschinen und werden Ostereier von einem Roboter mit selbst gestalteten Mustern bemalt. Das Programm im Überblick:

Ereignisreicher Donnerstag im Ars Electronica Center

(Deutsch) (Linz, 19.3.2012) Ein umfassendes Programm erwartet BesucherInnen des Ars Electronica Center diesen Donnerstag, 22. März. Um 18:30 erläutert die Neurowissenschafterin Manuela Macedonia, inwiefern neurophysiologische und bildgebende Methoden wichtige Fragen über den menschlichen Geist beantworten können. Ab 19:00 spricht Ars Electronica Leiter Gerfried Stocker im letzten Teil der Reihe „Medien – Technik – Gesellschaft“ über verschiedene Mitgestaltungsmöglichkeiten in der Mediengesellschaft und um 20:00 präsentieren Christine Schöpf und Jürgen Hagler, beide in der Jury des Prix Ars Electronica, ein Best of der beim Prix Ars Electronica 2011 eingereichten Arbeiten der Kategorie „Computer Animation / Film / VFX“.

NEXTCOMIC Festival im Ars Electronica Center

(Deutsch) (Linz, 14.3.2012) Von 15. bis 23. März steht das Ars Electronica Center ganz im Zeichen des NEXTCOMIC Festivals 2012. Auf dem Programm stehen eine Spieleperformance rund um eine Piratenseeschlacht, Comic-Zeichnen für die ganze Familie und ein Computerspiele-Corner der FH Hagenberg. Am Donnerstag, 15. März, wird dann bei Deep Space LIVE das Mangarium Reloaded erstmals vorgestellt – eine vom österreichischen Illustratorenverband gestaltete 3-D-Comicwelt, die das aufgrund des Klimawandels überflutete Österreich in Szene setzt.

Science Days: The Workshop of the Future

Sternenfotografie leicht gemacht

(Linz, 6.3.2012) Astrofotograf Dietmar Hager lädt Donnerstag, 8. März, zu einem Workshop über Sternenfotografie ins Ars Electronica Center und zeigt, dass ansprechende Bilder vom Mond und unseren Planeten auch mit Webcam und entsprechender Gratis-Software gelingen. The guides make a concerted effort to dispense with English-language high-tech jargon, and to allow plenty of time for tour group members to pose questions and to discuss their experiences and impressions. Vortragsreihe Medien – Technik – Gesellschaft

(Linz, 28.2.2012) Eine interessante Vortragsreihe mit Gerfried Stocker, dem künstlerischen Leiter der Ars Electronica Linz GmbH, steht im März am Programm von Volkshochschule Linz und Ars Electronica Center. Unter dem Titel Medien – Technik – Gesellschaft gibt Stocker an drei Abenden einen kultur- und sozialgeschichtlichen Überblick über die technologischen Entwicklungen und damit einhergehenden Veränderungen während der vergangenen drei Jahrzehnte. Diesen Donnerstag, 1.3.2012, stehen die Wechselwirkungen zwischen technologischen und gesellschaftlichen Revolutionen im Mittelpunkt. Die Veranstaltung findet im Wissensturm statt und startet um 19:00 Uhr.

Deep Space LIVE: Astrofotografie

(Linz, 27.2.2012) Das Thema Astrofotografie steht Donnerstag, 1.3.2012, im Mittelpunkt von Deep Space LIVE. Im Rahmen einer Dokumentation wirft der international renommierte und vielfach ausgezeichnete Filmemacher Erich Pröll einen Blick hinter die Kulissen der im Mühlviertel befindlichen Sternwarte des Astrofotografen Dietmar Hager. Wer selber gerne Bilder vom nächtlichen Himmel aufnehmen möchte erfährt anschließend anhand praktischer Beispiele, auf welche Weise das auch mit einfachen Mitteln möglich ist. Am 8. März erläutert Hager dann ab 18:30 im Rahmen eines Workshops, wie und mit welcher Software die eigenen Astrofotos bearbeitet werden können.

Deep Space LIVE: Best of Linz in 3D

(Deutsch) (Linz, 22.2.2012) Diesen Donnerstag, 23.2.2012, lädt das Archiv der Stadt Linz bei Deep Space LIVE zu einem bildreichen und nostalgischen Rundgang durch das Linz um 1900. Faszinierende Stereofotografien lassen das Linz von einst durch einen 3D-Effekt lebendig werden. Neben längst abgerissenen Gebäuden sind beliebte Ausflugsziele von früher ebenso zu sehen, wie Impressionen aus dem alltäglichen Leben der LinzerInnen. Durch den Abend führt Dr. Walter Schuster, Direktor des Archivs der Stadt Linz. Achtung: Aufgrund der zahlreichen Voranmeldungen werden zwei aufeinander folgende Vorstellungen angeboten. Tickets sind nur mehr für die Vorstellung um 20:30 erhältlich.

Interaktiv-kreativ-Tage in den Semesterferien

(Linz, 15.2.2012) Die Interaktiv-kreativ-Tage im Ars Electronica Center lassen während der Semesterferien keine Langeweile aufkommen. Dienstag, 21. Februar, werden auf einem Zeichencomputer fantastische Kreaturen entworfen, die mit Hilfe eines Lasercutters in richtige Papierwesen verwandelt werden können, während bei „Alles Labor!“ die DNA aus der eigenen Mundschleimhaut isoliert und Pflanzenklone hergestellt werden können. Donnerstag, 23. Februar, eröffnet der Workshop „Mikrokosmonauten“ Einblicke in die wunderbare Welt des Mikrokosmos. Zeitgleich zeigt „NeXT Toprobot“, wie Roboter ihr Umfeld wahrnehmen und darauf reagieren.

Deep Space LIVE: The Art of FLIGHT

(Linz, 13.2.2012) Snowboard-Action vom Feinsten steht bei Deep Space LIVE am Donnerstag, 16.2.2012, auf dem Programm. Der Film „The Art of FLIGHT“ begleitet die Snowboard-Legende Travis Rice sowie einige der weltbesten Rider zu Orten, die noch nie zuvor mit Snowboards befahren wurden. Modernstes Filmequipment, das teilweise eigens für „The Art of FLIGHT“ entwickelt wurde, sorgt für einzigartige Bilder von bestechender Qualität. Produziert wurde der Curt Morgan-Film vom Red Bull Media House in Zusammenarbeit mit Brain Farm Digital Cinema.

Science Days: Brain Research

(Linz, February 9, 2012) The 2nd Science Days event at the Ars Electronica Center this coming weekend will be all about research on the brain. The venue, appropriately enough, is the in-house BrainLab, where visitors can steer robots and write words solely with their thoughts, and find out why certain optical illusions just fool adults and not kids.

Vortragsreihe Gehirn für Alle: Wein im Kopf

(Linz, 8.2.2012) Donnerstag, 9. Februar 2012, lädt Neurowissenschaftlerin Dr.in Manuela Macedonia vom Max-Planck-Institut Leipzig zu einem Vortrag rund um Wein und das menschliche Gehirn. Im Zuge einer Wein-Degustation erfahren BesucherInnen, wie sich der Konsum von Alkohol auf unsere Wahrnehmung und Emotionen auswirkt, was im Gehirn passiert wenn Wein verkostet wird und warum der fabelhafte Rote vom letzten Urlaub zuhause nicht mehr schmeckt.

Deep Space LIVE: Mount St. Helens – Der Vulkan lebt

(Linz, 7.2.2012) Der Spirit Lake, durch den gewaltigen Ausbruch des Vulkans Mount St. Helens am 18. Mai 1980 schwer in Mitleidenschaft gezogen, steht diesen Donnerstag, 9. Februar, im Mittelpunkt von Deep Space LIVE. Für die Aufnahmen zu einer Universum-Doku durfte der Naturfilmer Erich Pröll 30 Jahre nach der Naturkatastrophe das Gebiet besuchen und als Erster wieder im Spirit Lake tauchen und filmen. Im Deep Space des Ars Electronica Center erzählt Pröll Wissenswertes über den Vulkan, zeigt Teile der Universum-Folge und lässt hinter die Kulissen der Dreharbeiten blicken.

“KET – Kids Experience Technology”

(Linz, January 27, 2012) Following up on its successful debut in February 2011 that drew 1,270 youngsters to the Ars Electronica Center in only 28 days, the KET – Kids Experience Technology traveling exhibition is returning for an encore presentation running January 31 to March 4. The show gives 4-8-year-olds the opportunity to playfully explore scientific phenomena and technological applications.

At each presentation, a guest speaker will be on hand to provide expert commentary.
