Dynamic Genetics V Mann
Videos, photographs, documents and physical objects—the evidence exhibited here makes a powerful case against Arnold Mann. Dynamic Genetics, a major corporation in the genetic therapy industry, accuses him of possessing proprietary DNA produced in an illegal clinic. This thought experiment illustrates what the future could bring in a world in which synthetic biology massively influences our society. Someday soon, it just might be that nation-states renounce their responsibility for citizens’ health care and turn over the job to private providers of individually tailored health insurance. The company then registers the whole genome of every policyholder and, depending on the presence of certain gene combinations that increase the probability of diseases like cancer, the amount of the premiums is adjusted accordingly. Which new laws and business models will synthetic biology soon be engineering?
