Hallstatt is known for its picturesque location, the salt mountain, the archaeological finds – and for the winged altars of the Catholic parish church. Leonhard Astls Marienaltar (1515-1520) is a double-wing altar with three showpieces showing scenes from the life of Jesus and Mary. The side altar of 1450 has recently made headlines: Four panels stolen in 1987 were rediscovered in 2016 by the Italian Criminal Police. The art historian Lothar Schultes and the theologian Dr. Michael Zugmann accompany you to art in Advent through the rich gigapixel imagery of these works of art.
