American photographer Joe Capra (aka Scientifantastic) specializes in time-lapse photography in the ultra-high-resolution range of 4K to 10K. For an assignment commissioned by a major client in Rio de Janeiro, he captured the vibrant life in that Brazilian megalopolis with a Phase One IQ180 camera. Each individual image that makes up this 10K video measures 10,328 by 7,760 pixels, which affords very high flexibility in post-processing. A single 10K sequence ultimately yields up to six different 4K motifs. The images worked up by the Ars Electronica Futurelab for Deep Space 8K offer an extraordinary opportunity to enjoy Joe Capra’s world-class timelapse photography on 16-by-9-meter projection surfaces.
