The term creativity has become a common denominator of considerations with respect to a new European economy. What is called for now at the outset of the 21st century are inventiveness and innovation. Emerging technologies have the potential to play a dual role in the “Creative Society” of the future. Whereas they are quickening the need for change in all aspects of people’s lives on the one hand, technology – if properly designed – can on the other hand also help its users to develop as creative thinkers. At the Ars Electronica Futurelab, we are certain that one doesn’t have to be an artist to become an innovative creator. We therefore examine the impact of digital technologies on creative processes, we conceptualize technology-based creativity support tools and also provide access to such tools for children and adolescents.
