Le Sacre du Printemps in Shanghai

Unique music performance

The musical visualization of The Rite of Spring by media artist Klaus Obermaier and Ars Electronica is a 21st-century update of Igor Stravinsky’s revolutionary 1931 ballet. Engendering a virtual three-dimensional space linked to musical impulses expands the performance in the form of an additional dimension and thereby creates a concert experience that really does justice to the innovative musical character of the original. Through the use of state-of-the-art technology, the interplay of real, virtual and musical spheres complements the composition’s numerous tonal and rhythmic innovations. The audience thus witnesses a staged performance that is truly trailblazing, one that attains a level of quality and intensity that matches the power and impact of this work’s highly controversial premiere.
Since its premiere in 2006, the performance has successfully toured the world. In 2013, Ars Electronica presented this spectacular music visualization in China for the first time.

Dates: July 7 and July 8, 2015
